James Friedel

Sorry more history - you can't have enough!!

The following are pictures of James Friedel (of the Friedel-Crafts) and his notebook bearing his description of how he did the reaction. It is important to note that James Friedel actually kept a notebook and even this great chemist crossed things out in his notebook. It was not a piece of artwork, but a day to day record of his experiments. Think of all the great discoveries that would have been lost if scientists kept their records on little scraps of papers as beginners have been known to do.
